About Choosara

Helping you pick the right mountain and the right course.

Why Choosara Exists

Planning a ski or golf trip involves a frustrating amount of guesswork. You end up with eight browser tabs open, comparing snow reports that all say conditions are excellent, lift ticket prices that change depending on when you look, and resort marketing that describes every mountain as having something for everyone.

The information exists, but it is scattered across resort websites, weather services, booking platforms, and forum threads. Nobody puts it in one place where you can actually compare two options against each other and make a decision.

Choosara was built to solve that specific problem. Enter two or three resorts, and you get a side-by-side breakdown of live snow conditions, current temperatures, ten-day forecasts, terrain, crowd expectations, estimated daily costs, and travel logistics. One page, real data, no marketing language.

How the Comparison Tool Works

The comparison pulls from several sources and combines them into a single view:

  • Live weather and snow data comes from Open-Meteo, an open weather API that provides current temperatures, recent snowfall totals over 24-hour, 3-day, and 7-day windows, and ten-day forecasts for each resort’s actual coordinates.
  • Resort characteristics — terrain, crowd patterns, cost estimates, and travel friction — are generated and structured to give a consistent comparison across every resort, using the same assumptions each time so that comparisons are genuinely like-for-like.
  • Webcam links point directly to each resort’s official live cameras so you can see conditions yourself rather than taking anyone’s word for it.

The tool then scores each option based on what you tell it matters most — snow, crowds, or cost — and explains why it picked the winner. You can see the reasoning, not just the result.

An honest limitation: cost estimates and crowd expectations are informed approximations, not live pricing feeds. They are useful for comparing two resorts against each other, but always check current prices directly with the resort before booking.

Our Editorial Approach

The guides on this site follow a few principles:

  • We say when something is a bad fit. Deer Valley is expensive. Jackson Hole is not a beginner mountain. Palisades Tahoe has road access problems on the biggest powder days. These things matter more than another paragraph of praise.
  • We prioritise practical detail over adjectives. Which specific runs suit beginners, which airport is genuinely closest, when the crowds are worst, where the savings actually are.
  • We only recommend places you can actually go. Our golf guides deliberately exclude private clubs you will never get into, regardless of how good the courses are.
  • We update for each season. Pass affiliations, resort ownership, and terrain expansions change. Guides are reviewed and dated accordingly.

How We Make Money

Choosara is free to use. We earn commission when you book hotels, flights, or rental cars through links on this site. This costs you nothing extra — the price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go direct.

This arrangement does not influence which resorts or courses appear in our guides or how they are ranked. We link to booking partners for every destination we cover, including the ones we are critical of. If a recommendation were driven by commission rather than merit, the site would stop being useful and there would be no reason for anyone to visit.
